Phoenix Zoo

The Phoenix Zoo is the largest privately owned, non-profit zoo in the United States. Located in Phoenix, Arizona, the zoo was founded by Robert Maytag, grandson of the washing machine pioneer Frederick Maytag. The zoo opened on November 3, 1962, with different types of animals on site.

The Phoenix Zoo houses more than 3,000 animals, including gorillas, lions, elephants, and tigers. It offers visitors the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the world’s most exotic animals. The zoo also has a robust education program that offers classes and camps for kids, as well as behind-the-scenes tours for adults. These give you the chance to learn about the animals’ behavior and care, as well as the zoo’s conservation efforts.

In addition to its animal residents, the Phoenix Zoo is also home to a variety of plant life. The zoo’s botanical collection includes more than 30,000 plants, representing more than 600 species. The zoo’s desert plant collection is one of the most diverse in the world, and its cacti and succulents are among the oldest and largest in existence.

But discovering the flora and fauna isn’t the only thing you’ll be doing, there are outdoor cafes and shops where you can sit down and enjoy a nice meal or find that perfect souvenir. The lush green garden and water landscapes make for the perfect serene environment, despite being in the middle of the desert.

Another exciting activity you can’t afford to miss is the Safari Cruiser and Endangered Species Carousel. The zoo also has an amphitheater where you can catch a show, and a carousel and train ride for the kids. This will be an enjoyable day for all ages, and that’s why the Phoenix Zoo is one of the top zoos in the country.

The Phoenix Zoo is open every day except for Christmas Day, and offers a variety of ticket options to fit your budget. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, a visit to the Phoenix Zoo is sure to be a fun and educational experience. So, come on down and explore all that this unique zoo has to offer!
